- One month before the examination you should start revising the course as many times as possible so that on the day before the exam you will be prepared enough to crack the exam.
- In the revision stage concentrate more on the selected topics.
- Always reach the examination centre 30 min before the start of the exam. It helps you to stay cool and calm during exam.
- Keep all your necessary stationeries and admit card with you before going to the examination centre.
- During exam try to attempt section A which is compulsory and that to Q1 carrying one mark each and those in Q2 carrying two marks each.

- Results of qualified candidates in GATE will give All India Rank and indicate percentile score. For example, a percentile score of 99 means you are in the top 1% category of the candidates who appeared for GATE.
- Candidates who get less than 70 percentile get no score card.

New assessment criteria for IITs aspirants
There are 15 IITs in the country and every year a large number of students graduate from these IITs. These IITs are very well renowned and globally acclaimed. To get admission into one of the prestigious IITs students have to clear the Joint Entrance Exam jointly conducted by the IITs of the country. All the aspiring candidates who wish to pursue graduation and post-graduation programs from the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) after qualifying the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) will be assessed (in academics) on the basis of ‘ Credit-Base Performance’ (CBP), from the coming academic session commencing from July 2011.
In future, all the students will be awarded degrees on the basis of CBP. Even, though the present grading system of Cumulative Preference Index (CPI) will remain as one of the parameter to judge a student’s performance, however, the main importance will be given to CPB. SG Dhande, Director, IIT Kanpur informed that now the students will be evaluated on the same basis. He also proposed to uniformalise the criteria for promoting students from one semester to another across all IITs-a demand frequently made by students.
