Time Scheduling
The job of being a university student, like most other jobs, can be carried out either efficiently or inefficiently. The way we use time (or waste it) is largely a matter of habit patterns. One of the best techniques for developing more efficient habits of time use is to prepare a time schedule. Research psychologist and efficiency experts can produce impressive statistics demonstrating the efficiency of a well-organized time schedule. The work habits of people who have achieved outstanding success invariably show a well-designed pattern or schedule. When a person has several duties confronting him simultaneously he often will fail to do any of them. The purpose of scheduling is not to make a slave of the student, but to free him from the scholastic inefficiency and anxiety that is, at least partially, a function of wasted time, inadequate planning, hasty, last minute study, etc.
The most successful system for most students is to combine long-range and short-range planning. thus, a student can make a general schedule for an entire quarter and then prepare a more specific plan for two or three days a week at a time.
LONG-RANGE SCHEDULE: Some suggestions for developing a long-range strategy, such as a semester schedule.

MHRD Scholarships
- A candidate is eligible for Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Scholarship / Assistantship in Engineering/Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy/ Sciences at engineering colleges / institutes in the country only if he/she qualifies in GATE-Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. To avail the scholarship, additionally, the candidate must secure admission to such a postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution. GATE qualification does not guarantee admission. GATE qualified candidates in Engineering disciplines are also eligible for the award of the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in CSIR-Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Laboratories. Some government organizations prescribe GATE qualification as a requirement for applying to the post of a Scientist/Engineer.
- As per the directives of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India, the following procedure is to be adopted for admission to postgraduate programmes (Master’s and Doctoral) with MHRD Scholarship/ Assistantship. The GATE performance of the candidate is considered for admission. If the candidate is to be selected through interview for postgraduate programmes, minimum 70% weightage is to be given to the GATE performance. The remaining weightage (30% maximum) can be given to the marks obtained by the candidate in his/her qualifying examination or interview. Candidates opting for a general paper (Engineering Sciences (XE) or Life Sciences (XL)) should be further examined (by interview/written test) by the admitting institute. In such cases also the weightage for GATE score should not be less than 70%. The admitting institute will prescribe minimum passing percentage of marks in the interview. Some Colleges/Institutes specify GATE as mandatory qualification even for admission without MHRD Scholarship/Assistantship.
- Candidates can seek details about admission procedures and availability of MHRD Scholarship/ Assistantship from the department of their interest/postgraduate office of the concerned institution. GATE offices do not entertain any enquiry about admission and award of Scholarship / Assistantship.
- While qualifying in GATE is essential for all candidates seeking admission to postgraduate programmes with MHRD Scholarship/ Assistantship, the management of the postgraduate scholarship / assistantship is the responsibility of the admitting institution. The GATE Committee has no role in the award or disbursement of scholarship / assistantship. Similarly, reservation of seats under different categories is as per the policies and norms prevailing at the admitting institution.
- According to MHRD rules, the award of postgraduate scholarship/assistantship to GATE qualified candidates is for a maximum period of 24 months for Master’s degree programmes in Engineering / Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy and Science (M.Tech.).
- Every qualified candidate receives an original GATE Scorecard valid for two years. Additional Score Cards, up to a maximum of two, will be issued on request and on payment of Rs 250/- per card. These cards will be labeled as Additional Score card -1 and Additional Score card - 2 at the top. However, if the candidate changes his/her admitting institution, he/she is required to clarify the matters related to his/her admission and Scholarship/Assistantship with the new institution.
- At present, students in the Integrated Master’s Degree and Dual Degree programmes in Engineering/Technology are eligible to appear in GATE in order to qualify for the postgraduate scholarship in their own institutions only. They are not eligible for admission to a fresh M.E. / M.Tech. programme.
Objectives Of GATE.
- Identify, at the National level, meritorious and motivated candidates for admission to Postgraduate Programmes in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science and Pharmacy.
- Serve as a mandatory qualification for the MHRD scholarship/assistantship.
- Serve as benchmark of normalization of the Undergraduate Engineering Education in the country.
Why You Should Appear For GATE?
In order to pursue M.Tech program in a leading institute of the country we must opt for GATE. The benefits of M.Tech are as listed below:
1. Companies coming for Campus Placement in leading Institutes are better as well as large in number.
2. Salaries offered for M.Tech are higher as compared to B.E.
3. M.Tech degree leads to specialization and furthering of interest in a certain area which may lead to Ph.D
4. M.Tech degree is a must for those wishing to apply for Faculty/Research positions in educational Institutes/R&D centers.
5. Scholarship of Rs. 5000.0 per month by the Government of India is paid during the entire period of 18 months of M.Tech.
6. The M.Tech program is a 3 semester (18 months) program.
NOTE
1. Candidates who get less than 70 percentile get no score card.
2. After publication of GATE results, students must apply to individual Institutes to get their application forms.
3. Institutes advertise M.Tech admissions in leading newspapers from 1st April till end July. However some Institutes do not advertise and therefore students have to get the forms themselves.
4. The concerned Institute may conduct written test and/or interview for the purpose of admission.
5. If your Gate score in Computer Science is
- 96 percentile or more then try for IITs.
- In between 85 - 96 percentile then apply for top RECs, JADAVPUR, SHIBPUR, ROORKEE, etc.
- Less than 85 - look for appropriate institutes.

How to prepare for gate in three months
GATE does check only fundamentals of your engineering specialization.
people find it difficult coz they may not be sound at it.
Well only way getting around this GATE exam is to have your basics crystal clear.
have you every had a close look at the questions of GATE paper? if you did, you might have probably noticed that they ask fundamental questions but the thing that bothers everyone is that they are TRICKY. thats it. all they need/expect from you is to have that ability to solve the problem using the appropriate fundamentals of engineering subjects + math.
my suggestion for exams like GATE would be to start off with mathematics.
have a complete grip over it and then go to subjects of your specialization.
math i didnt mean just to practice it rather try to feel it.
okay, sounds crazy but try to understand what i mean.
suppose you are given a function, dont just try to know how to differentiate or integrate it rather try to have a insight of why are we doing it, whats the use of doing these process, what this process could physically mean.
try to always have a graphical/geometric interpretations of functions when you are trying to differentiate/integrate or trying to find maxima minima etc.
every small thing you should be knowing. for example you should also be knowing what is the difference between line integral and single integral or double integral and surface integral & even triple vs volume.
be very thorough with all these three calculus: differential, integral & vector.
similarly have a complete thorough knowledge of other topics of math. complete detail study of BASICS.
then you go to your engineering subjects, definitely first maths gonna make your life quite easy. you will realize it.
well i know things could look very scary at this point, but there is no let go if you wanna end up yourself into one of the fine schools. so you have to work hard. hard work + talent -----> success.
be very systematic. be consistent. commitment is very necessary and having a passion is must.
things are always gonna stand in your way, never gonna let you wade through easily. so, only way to succeed is "never ever give up" & have patience as much as you can. just fight it out, sure one day you gonna make it.
