GATE is considered to be one of the toughest examinations for admission to various postgraduate courses offered at the premier institutes of India. The full form of GATE is Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. The exam is conducted on an all-India basis. The conducting body of the exam is the GATE committee. This committee comprises of members from the reputed institutions of our country like the Indian Institute of Science, and the IITs. The exam is held on the behalf of National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development.
The exam is held online for the subject Mining Engineering. It is a computer based exam. The marks carried by the test are 100 and it consists of 65 questions. It will be a three hour duration exam. The questions are all multiple choice type ones. There are four alternative answer options given with each question. You have to select one out of the four. Negative marking is also there in the exam. One third of the marks allotted for the questions are deducted in case the question is answered wrong. The questions are from the prescribed syllabus. Last 10 questions are from general aptitude. First five of these 10 are 1 mark questions and the next five carry 2 marks each.
