GATE Exam Fees

For applying to the GATE exam the students will have to get the application form and this form is being sold every year during the last week of September. The students can get the application form either through online or from the IISc – Bangalore and seven IITs in India.

The application fee for the GATE exam is Rs.1000 for general and OBC category candidates and Rs.500 for Schedule Caste/Schedule tribe and physically disabled candidates. In the case of online application the cost is Rs.800 for general and OBC category candidates and Rs.400 for SC/ST/PD candidates. The fees should be paid by the students in the form of Demand Draft drawn in any nationalized banks in favor of the Chairman of the corresponding Zonal Office of GATE (i.e.) any of the seven IITs in India or IISc –Bangalore.

GATE exam is conducted in IISc Bangalore the IITs in Bangalore, Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee. Online exam is conducted only for two papers; they are Textile Engineering and Fiber Science and Mining Engineering. GATE exam is conducted in 21 different streams of engineering and they are Mathematics, Physics, chemistry, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Sciences and Life Sciences, Textile Engineering and Fiber science, Geology and Geophysics, Electronics and communications Engineering, Mining Engineering, Production and Industrial Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architecture and planning, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Civil Engineering.

For all the streams of GATE exam the same application fee is collected and students will be required to pay only the application fee (i.e.) the above-mentioned fee for appearing to the GATE exam. The application should be clearly filled in by the students and should be submitted to the appropriate zonal office either personally or through registered or speed post to the GATE Chairman of the respective zone.
