Normally, the application form for the GATE exam is made available to the students from the last week of September of every year and the students will be required to submit the duly filled in application form before the first week of November. Application forms are also sold online and online submission of forms is allowed only until the last week of October every year. Online examination for Textile Engineering and Fiber Science and Mining Engineering papers are conducted during the first week of February and offline examination for other papers are conducted during the second week of February.
Off-line Application:
The information brochure and the application form can be obtained from the GATE office in all IISc and seven IITs in India on payment of non-refundable application fee of Rs.1000 from the designated bank branches for each IIT. The application fee is Rs.500 for Schedule Caste, Schedule Tribe and physically disabled students. The SC/ST/PD students should submit the certificate of proof from appropriate authority. The application form can be purchased from the GATE office personally or through post by sending a request letter with the Demand Draft drawn in favor of the respective IIT branch and the student should also attach two address slips along with the request letter. The students will also be required to submit the duly filled in application form personally or through registered or speed post to the GATE Chairman of the respective Zone.
Online Application:
The students can also apply to GATE exam through online. The cost of the online application form is Rs.800 for general category students and Rs.400 for SC/ST/PD students. The SC/ST/PD students should submit the certificate of proof from appropriate authority. Online payment of application money is possible through HDFC bank using visa card/master card/debit card. The students applying online are advised to have scanned signature and digital photograph. While filling in the application online the students should follow the instructions provided in the online application form.
